Faqs
1. Do you work through the weekend?
I respond to emergency calls. All other work which can be planned is taken care of during normal business hours.
2. Can I get an estimate by email/phone?
I can give you an approximate cost over the phone in regards to most emergency work – that is for casual problems like overflowing or non flushing toilets, leaky radiator valves or even unfortunate holes in hot or cold water pipes made by the DIY enthusiasts. More complicated jobs as unforeseen problems will be dealt with by the hourly rate. Visiting your home and discussing your requirements is preferred before giving you either a verbal or written estimate.
3. I am usually home late from work. Could you come for the estimate in the evening or on Saturday?
I am very flexible with my working hours and I will go the extra mile if necessary.
4. Do you provide a free estimate?
Whilst visiting your home in regards to your new project, I will give you a free verbal predicted price for the labour part on the spot or within a couple of days. If you are happy with the cost, the written estimate will follow about a week later. I will keep to the labour estimation I gave you previously plus the details of materials needed for the contract. A written estimate is a complete breakdown of labour and material expenses and it is chargeable if you decide not to go ahead with the work.
5. How accurate is your written estimate?
My estimates contain every nut and bolt which I believe is needed to finish the contract within the agreed scale. If it is not on the estimate, it is not included. It prevents any misunderstanding about the extent of the contract. There may be additional and unavoidable work like replacing crumbling/falling plaster on the wall after tile or wallpaper removal. I would discuss the problem with you & seek your authorisation before remedial work is carried out. The estimate is not a quotation and you should not expect the final invoice to be exactly the same amount as on the estimate. By checking the estimate and invoice you will see exactly what items were used (or not) and in what quantity + any extra work (if any).
6. I've decided to go ahead. When can you start?
If it is a small job like changing a cartridge, replacing a ball valve or washers etc, I can usually attend the same or next working day. For larger projects you can expect to wait from one to two weeks.
7. Can you get all the equipment for my bathroom?
Not many people would leave another person to furnish their house. It is the same with the bathroom. Everyone have a different taste for the colours and shapes. It is better if you choose your fittings and tiles – I am here to advise you about the best way to achieve the results you want. I can help you with the delivery of bulky or heavy items.
8. Do I have to pay up front?
I will only take a deposit for the fittings and sanitary ware I will buy on your behalf. On the long running projects we set up a schedule of the payments with balance updates as required. Any other payment is due on satisfactory completion of the work. Emergency and small jobs are payable on the spot by cash or electronic transfer.
9. How long is your work guaranteed for?
Standard period is one year. That would also apply to any materials and fittings I have supplied and fitted.
10. What I am going to do with the rubbish from my old bathroom / toilet or radiator after a new one has been fitted?
I can dispose of it if you require. There is however a minimum charge for every tradesman just to pass through the weighbridge which I have to pass onto you. In addition, the current charge for the disposal of 1000kg of building material is £95+VAT. If you can take it there personally, it will cost you next to nothing.
